Sioux Falls Just Flipped the Switch on ‘Circuit 13.’ What Is It?
Sioux Falls is getting all powered up for the future.
On Monday, (July 29) City Light and Power celebrated the competition of a highly anticipated project by flipping the switch on "Circuit 13."
Dakota News Now reports the Circut 13 Project, a 5.5-mile underground electrical circuit that powers much of the infrastructure in Sioux Falls is designed to supply power from the City’s substation on north Minnesota Avenue to the Water Reclamation Plant, Public Safety Campus, and future Light, Power, and Traffic building in northeastern Sioux Falls.

Circuit 13 will help to provide reliable utilities to that area of the city while reducing the risk of losing power.
Sioux Falls Public Works Director Mark Cotter told Dakota News Now, "Circuit 13 will serve a number of community facilities, very namely that most would know across the street with the airport, Denny Sanford Premier Center, and a number of schools.”
According to Dakota News Now, "City Light and Power" is one of four public utilities provided by the city of Sioux Falls. The three others are "Water Reclamation", serving to collect and treat wastewater, "Water Purification", providing fresh drinking water, and the "Sioux Falls Regional Landfill", which is responsible for the collection of household hazardous waste materials.
Nearly 3,000 residential and commercial customers receive their electricity courtesy of City Light and Power. Half of those customers are public buildings, in the central and northern areas of Sioux Falls.
