Time to Take down the Tree? Here Are Sioux Falls Two Drop off Sites
As a kid, I remember a time when you could literally kick the family Christmas tree to the curb once the holiday season was over. My dad would place our tree right on the boulevard in front of the house, usually sticking the old spruce right in a snow bank and the garbage man would haul it away.
Those days are long gone.
Now you must dispose of your tree the right way, which means taking it to a city-approved tree, wreath, and garland drop-off site.
Residents of the Sioux Falls area can begin doing that starting today (December 26).
There are two drop-off sites here in the Sioux Empire, one located West of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1015 East Chambers Street, just off North Cliff Avenue, and the other on North Lyon Boulevard. The two best ways to access that site are from West 12th Street to North Lyon Boulevard or from West Madison Street to North Lyon Boulevard.
Dakota News Now reports both Sioux Falls sites will be open until (January 7) and are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sundays from Noon to 5 PM.
You can drop off your Christmas trees at both sites absolutely free if you're a resident of Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner counties.
According to Dakota News Now, these sites are not available for organizations such as businesses, farms, nonprofits, churches, schools, and governmental entities.
The two drop-off sites ask that you please remove all lights, ornaments, decorations, and stands from your tree before dropping them off.
You should also know that artificial Christmas trees, along with bags, leaves, rubble, and household garbage items are not accepted at the Sioux Falls drop-off locations.
