Prairie Village in Madison is a living museum of the past and one of the jewels of its existence is this yearly tribute to historic farming methods with a hint of the modern thrown in!

The 61st Annual Steam Threshing Jamboree is going on this week, Thursday, August 22 through Sunday, August 25th, and it truly is an event the whole family will fall in love with.

Prairie Village can be found two miles west of Madison on Highway 34.

You'll see parades, take train and carousel rides, wander through all kinds of exhibits, shop at the largest flea market in the area, enjoy free musical entertainment, truck and tractor pulls, the antique car show, check out weaving, spinning, and quilting displays, and of course take in the star of the event, steam and horse threshing!

That is just the short list of things there are to see and do at this amazing 4-day event. In fact, there is so much to see and do, they even offer golf cart rentals (while supplies last). You can see the complete Jamboree schedule here.

You can purchase your admission wristbands at the gate daily. Pets are welcome too, as long as they are on a leash.

This remarkable celebration really does preserve South Dakota's agricultural heritage and educates younger generations. It will transport you back in time and honor our state's farming legacy.

One Of South Dakota's Coolest Parks Is Just East of Sioux Falls

Before this South Dakota State Park was dedicated it had been more than 40 years since South Dakota had a new State Park. And this Sioux Falls green space is a gem!

Good Earth State Park is on the southeast edge of Sioux Falls right on the Iowa / South Dakota border.
