As America gears up to light the fuse on its 250th birthday this Fourth of July, communities across the Sioux Empire are preparing to light up the sky in red, white, and boom. But in one South Dakota town, the fireworks display will be grounded this year.

Madison, South Dakota, was forced to make the tough call to cancel its annual Independence Day fireworks show. According to Dakota News Now, the decision came down to a very unpatriotic culprit: rising costs.

The Madison Area Chamber of Commerce didn’t take the decision lightly. Fireworks have long been a staple of the town’s Fourth of July tradition, bringing families together under the summer sky to celebrate freedom, community, and everything that makes the 4th of July great. But as the price tag for pyrotechnics continues to climb, organizers ultimately decided it was time to pull the plug, at least for this year.

In a message shared on social media, the Chamber emphasized that while fireworks are on pause, their commitment to the community is not. They plan to continue investing in events that bring people together and support local businesses.

And for those residents living in "Madtown" who are jonesing for some pyrotechnics this Fourth of July, it can only mean one thing: ROAD TRIP!
