The city of Sioux Falls has the power, and now, after well over 100 years, the employees who work at the Municipal Power Service Building are about to get a new, modern work facility!

The team of people who call Sioux Falls Traffic, Light, and Power home are about to step into the 21st century.

The city of Sioux Falls recently made the decision to construct a new, modernized power service building. The current facility has been in service for over 100 years.

Think about that for a second, Calvin Coolidge was president, and people were cruising the steets of Sioux Falls in Model Ts back then. Yeah, I'd say they're due for an update.

Our friends over at Pigeon 605 report that today the Sioux Falls light and power division distributes power to more than 2,900 residential, commercial and government customers. It has a rather expansive power system as well, comprising 29 miles overhead and 60 miles underground.

According to the aticle in Pigeon 605, the city's revised game plan is to bring the light and power team together with traffic operations and the engineering division in a brand new 60,000 square-foot state-of-the art facility that will allow the entire team of people to work together under one roof.

The new building will be located in the northeast part of the city, between the water reclamation facility and the new public safety campus.

About 25 people will be working in the new facility once it's operational. Given the size of the new structure, there will be plenty of room for growth in the future.

Pigeon 605 says construction on the new power service building should get underway in a little over 30 days. The project should be fully completed in about 18-months.

The modern marvel that is YouTube never ceases to amaze me. Sure, there's plenty of garbage there, but you can also find some gems.
