Most Fun Cities in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa
Everyone has a different idea of what having fun means. It could be as elaborate as traveling or as simple as trying a new restaurant or going to a movie. In every case, you only have so much to budget for actually having fun. And having fun can be expensive.
According to Wallet Hub, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says the average American spends $3,600 on entertainment every year. That seems high to me, but maybe I'm not an average American!
In any case, Wallet Hub wanted to help Americans find cities with fun yet cost-effective activities. So they compared 180 of the largest cities in the country, in three major categories, A) Entertainment and Recreation, B) Nightlife and Parties, and C) Costs.
Within those categories, they examined wide-ranging fun opportunities from bowling alleys per capita to restaurants, parks, movie theaters, spas, shopping centers, night spots, and more. They even considered the weather in these 180 cities!
When all was said and done and they were done crunching numbers, these were the top 5 most fun cities in the U.S.:
- Las Vegas, NV
- Orlando, FL
- Miami, FL
- Atlanta, GA
- New Orleans, LA
In our tri-state area, several of our larger cities showed up too including:
- Rapid City in 89th place
- Sioux Falls at 103rd
- Minneapolis came in at 32nd place
- St. Paul at 82nd
- Des Moines was 119th place
- Cedar Rapids came in at 129th place
