I realize that March Madness has major significance in the lives of college basketball fans, and that there are a lot of them. Not to mention the number of people who get caught up in the whole bracket challenge thing even if they're only marginally interested, because every workplace seems to have one going around.

But for me "March Madness" has always had a completely different significance. Yes, St. Patrick's Day plays into it, because after all, it is the reason for the "season". "What season is that?" you ask. Shamrock Shake and Filet 'O Fish season, of course!

And no, I'm not  suggesting you do the same, (unless you are so inclined),it is simply something I've done for years during the month of March. At least 2 or 3 times during this month I will go there and order this delightful combination. Now normally, I'm not even a big fan of anything mint; but Shamrock Shakes and Girl Scouts Thin Mint cookies would be two exceptions.

For years I have thought that if they only added chocolate to the Shamrock Shake, they'd really have something! This year, they finally did and through this St. Patrick's Day, (Friday, March 17, 2017) when you buy one, or twelve, 25 cents from each one will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Here in Sioux Falls we are incredibly fortunate to have two Ronald McDonald Houses (one on the Avera McKennan campus and one on the Sanford campus). Their mission is to "keep families with sick children close to each other and the medical care their child needs". These loving facilities offer shelter, food, and comfort to families during some of the worst moments of the lives and they really do make a difference.

You can too by participating in my Minty March Madness tradition.
