Minnesota Vikings Use 5th-Year Contract Option on Anthony Barr
Rick Spielman has decided on 5th-year contract options, and he has exercised the option to keep Anthony Barr through 2018.
The 5th-year contract options are given to players that are drafted in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. This year's options are for players from the 2014 NFL Draft Class. Tom Pelissero of USA Today is reporting that the Vikings will pick up the option on Anthony Barr.
Barr was drafted 9th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. During his first three seasons, he has 208 total tackles, 9.5 sacks, and one interception. Barr was also selected to the Pro Bowl in 2015 and 2016. He has started in 42 games for the Vikings.
His contract will be worth $12.8 million according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Last week it was reported that the Vikings would be unlikely to give the 5th-year to quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. That has also been confirmed today.
