Dakota News Now is reporting that the Minnesota Department of Transportation is bringing back its popular snowplow naming contest for the fifth year.

The contest is open to all Minnesotans and you'll be naming another set of snowplows, one for each Minnesota DOT region. They're looking for witty, Minnesota-inspired or winter-themed ideas.

Submissions will be accepted until noon on December 20. After the deadline closes, Minnesota Department of Transportation staff will review all the entries and select finalists for public voting in January.

There are some rules to follow:

  • Each person can only submit one name, so make it a goodie. Submissions are limited to no more than 30 characters (including letters and spaces).
  • No profanity or inappropriate language
  • Politically inspired names (including phrases, slogans or plays on politicians’ names) will not be considered. Naming snowplows is meant to be fun and lighthearted, so they're going to keep this contest nonpartisan and nonpolitical.
  • Submit something new and fresh, previous winners won't be considered.

Speaking of previous winners,  these were last year's:

  • Taylor Drift
  • Clark W. Blizzwald
  • Dolly Plowton
  • Waipahinte (Dakota word for "snowplow")
  • Beyonsleigh
  • You're Killin' Me Squalls
  • Fast and Flurrious
  • Barbie's Dream Plow

You can submit names and find more information on the Minnesota Name the Snowplows webpage.
