Make-A-Wish Helps Dream Come True for Sioux Falls Roosevelt Student
A Sioux Falls Roosevelt student is having a life-long wish come true thanks to Make-A-Wish South Dakota.
Steven a 17-year-old junior from Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School loves basketball and in particular the show "Inside the NBA" on TNT.
He's always dreamed of meeting the hosts of the show and now the folks with Make-A-Wish are making that dream a reality.
According to Dakota News Now, Steven has always dreamed of getting an "Inside the NBA Experience." He was forced to go to school at home last year while undergoing cancer treatment.
Steven loves the "Inside the NBA" show and highly respects Ernie Johnson one of the show's hosts. As Dakota News Now reports, Steven was touched by the way Johnson described his relationship with his own son, and was extremely moved by a clip shown of Johnson telling the story of his adopted son Michael and the way he helped to care for him while he was sick.
Johnson lost his son after a lifelong battle with muscular dystrophy in October of 2021.
Steven's parents, Cory and Michelle told Dakota News Now, We’re beyond excited for Steven to get his wish. As parents, it was tough to see what cancer did to him and how it kept him from his friends and the things he loves. Even now he still faces anxiety daily with getting back to normal. Watching basketball and the show with him at night helped him not think about what he was going through. What everyone at Make-A-Wish does is such a blessing for kids like Steven.”
Since 1984 Make-A-Wish South Dakota has helped to grant the wishes of over 2,400 children throughout its chapter.
