Don’t Fall Victim, Beware Of Jury Duty Scam
Every other day you hear about yet another group of scammers trying to part you with your hard-earned cash or trying to get their grubby hands on your personal identity information.
So it really does matter that you protect yourself from these weasels!
Dakota News Now is reporting that the South Dakota Unified Judicial System is warning about a new email and phone scam that is circulating out there.
You may get a message that you missed jury duty and are in danger of being jailed or owe a certain amount of money immediately. Don't be pressured into turning over any information or money by this scam.
Our circuit court system in South Dakota will send jury duty summons to you by mail, not by phone or email.
If you fail to show up for jury duty, you can be fined but you won't get a call asking you for money.
Another indicator that this is a scam is that you may be asked to pay by buying gift cards, doing a wire transfer, or by cryptocurrency deposits. The court system does not accept these forms of payment.
If you receive one of these phone calls or emails, you should immediately report it to the Consumer Protection Division of the South Dakota Office of the Attorney General at 1-800-300-1986.
