Iowa Driver Pulled Over For 96 MPH is the Least Of Their Problems

It's one thing to get pulled over for going 10 mph over the speed limit. Is it smart to speed? No. But it does happen and hopefully, you aren't driving recklessly while doing so. It's an entirely different story to get pulled over for traveling 31 mph over the speed limit. That puts your life in danger and even worse, it puts other drivers on the road in danger. There are three parts to this story and to be honest, this driver is lucky they didn't kill anyone.

A few weeks ago we learned about an Iowa teen, in Johnson County, who was cited for going 43 mph over the speed limit. A Bremer County officer recently pulled someone over for driving 96 mph in a 65 mph zone. That ticket and a possible suspended license are only the beginning for this driver.

Today (September 22), the Bremer County Sheriff's office posted a big reminder to Iowa drivers, if you've had too much to drink, do not get behind the wheel. There's never a good reason for it.

The driver in question was pulled over and registered a .203 blood alcohol concentration. This would put this driver close to being 3x above the legal BAC limit. Just so we both understand this...this driver clearly knows their drunk and wants to drive at 96 mph. Yikes. To make this worse, they were headed to Minnesota?!

According to Google Maps, if you were to drive straight north, on Highway 63, from Bremer County to Chester Iowa, it would take about an hour. Chester is basically on the Iowa/Minnesota border. The odds of this person headed to Chester...who knows but I wanted to give you an idea of how far it is from Bremer County to Minnesota if you're traveling straight north.

If you're traveling at 96 miles an hour, obviously the time would be less but that's an insane amount of time to be driving at 3x the legal limit. Any amount of driving is crazy at 3x the legal limit.

This driver was drunk, driving 96 mph, and wanted to travel an incredibly long way while doing so. The story has bad decision after bad decision.

The sad part is...that the Bremer County Sheriff's Office says this isn't a rare occurrence.

If you're going to drink...find a sober ride home. Hurting yourself is one thing but imagine hitting someone else, seriously injuring or even killing them. That's something that would keep you up every night for the rest of your life.

Hopefully, for this driver, this is a pretty big wake-up call. Thankfully, no one was injured. Next time...they might not be so lucky.
