Minnesota Musician Dan Wilson Nominated for Academy Award

A Minnesotan was among the names called Tuesday (January 23) on the list of 2024 Academy Award Nominations.

St. Louis Park native Dan Wilson is included in the songwriters up for Best Original Song at the 96th annual awards show, which takes place March 10 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Wilson co-wrote the song 'It Never Went Away' for the Netflix documentary, American Symphony, which tells the story of musician Jon Batiste attempting to compose a symphony as his wife, writer Suleika Jaouad, undergoes cancer treatment.

Wilson and Batiste are the co-writers of the song.

Wilson, a member of the 90's band Semisonic, is looking to add to an already impressive resume, that includes a pair of Grammy wins for Song of the Year ('Not Ready to Make Nice' by Dixie Chicks in 2007) and Album of the Year as a producer for Adele's 21 in 2012.

He was also nominated for Best Rock Song for co-writing Semionic's 'Closing Time', but lost to Alanis Morissette's 'Uninvited' at the 1999 Grammys.

Wilson is looking to join the likes of actresses Judy Garland (Grand Rapids) and Jessica Lange (Cloquet), along with musicians Prince (Minneapolis) and Bob Dylan (Duluth), as Minnesota-born Oscar winners.
