Iowa Candy Maker Recalls Products Sold in 17 States

Possible salmonella contamination has led a well-known Iowa candy company to issue a massive recall.

Sioux City-based Palmer Candy is pulling several of its 'white coated confectionary items' sold at Walmart, Hy-Vee, Target and Dollar General stores in South Dakota and Iowa, as well as Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

The products were also distributed internationally.

Palmer says it was notified about the salmonella potential risk by the supplier of the liquid coating used for the confections. Production of the affected products has been suspended while the company investigates along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Exposure to the bacteria could cause a variety of health risks associated with salmonella, including diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
