A South Dakota singer is shining bright on one of the biggest stages on television.

A Black Hills State University student from Mitchell, South Dakota named Logan Culhane is showing the world her talents on the upcoming American Idol season.

Logan is a freshman majoring in music and minoring in theatre at Black Hills State University. Music was always part of this South Dakota's girl life. Logan tells Black Hills State University in a recent interview that her family knew she was going to be something. Logan's family encouraged her to submit her virtual American Idol audition and to go after her dream. She just didn't think this opportunity would happen so soon!

“I always had dreams of doing big things like this, but I never thought it would happen so soon, in my freshman year of college. I’m very thankful for it, and I’m really excited for people to see it.”

After multiple Zoom calls and meetings, Logan finally got invited to the televised auditions to perform in front of the all-star judges panel: Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie. Logan admits in the interview with BHSU it was a surreal moment:

“I was so nervous, and it didn’t feel real until I was going into the audition room with them. You look at these people that are so incredibly talented and have so much presence in the industry, and it’s like wow! So, it was an honor to sing in front of them.”

Logan loves to sing and perform. She's actually starring in the upcoming BHSU Theatre and Music Department’s production of “Little House on the Prairie: The Musical.” She's playing the role of Laura Ingalls.
