Meet Your New Big Cat Friend at the Sioux Falls Great Plains Zoo
There's a new cat in Sioux Falls at the Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium!
After some time mourning the beloved Amur tiger Callie, the Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium staff are thrilled to welcome a new Amur tiger to their family.

Say hello to Zuzaan! He is a two-year-old Amur tiger all the way from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York. Zuzaan just arrived in Sioux Falls earlier this summer, and the Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium can't wait for you to meet this handsome boy!
Right now, Zuzaan is getting familiar and comfortable with his new home at the Great Plains Zoo. During this process, the staff have noticed that Zuzaan is a playful cat. But he can also be curious, "extremely shy and cautious."
While he acclimates to the habitat, Zuzaan may choose to remain behind the scenes. It will be up to him each day to decide whether he goes into the exhibit - and for how long. We appreciate your patience while Zuzaan works toward this next major milestone.
Zuzaan is not roaming around his habitat yet for visitors to meet him, and Sioux Falls already loves him!
I’m so glad you have a new Amur tiger settling in. Looking forward to meeting Zuzaan!
Awww he looks so young and playful
What a handsome guy!
The Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium has been home to Amur tigers since 1969.
Be patient! Big cats take a little while to feel truly at home in a new environment. And who knows...Zuzaan could have a friend join him at the Great Plains Zoo in the future.
Welcome home, Zuzaan!
