What Event is Coming to Minnesota That is “Second Only to the Super Bowl?”

It looks like Minnesota will soon play host to an event so big that only the Super Bowl ranks above it. But what could it be?

Wendy Blackshaw is the Chief Executive Officer of Minnesota Sports and Events, and she raised some eyebrows when she was at a Minnesota House committee meeting on Wednesday and said that in the next few weeks an event will be announced that is "Second Only to the Super Bowl."

What Large Event Could Be Coming to Minnesota?

That comment really narrows down what event she could be referring to, according to Forbes, the top 5 sporting events are the Super Bowl, Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics, FIFA's World Cup, and WrestleMania. And by process of elimination, we can safely remove 4 of those options, leaving only one sporting event as a possibility.

What about a non-sporting event? Unlikely, not even the top concert tours in the world can rank with the Super Bowl, maybe Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, but she's not coming back to Minnesota anytime soon, so my guess is that it will be a sporting event.

What Event is Most Likely Coming to Minnesota?

So what event is coming? My guess, WrestleMania 41 will be at U.S. Bank Stadium in April 2025. This rumor has been circulating for a while among wrestling enthusiasts, and it sounds like Blackshaw all but confirmed that rumor on Wednesday.

WrestleMania 40 happens April 6th and 7th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, so that would match up with when Blackshaw said an official announcement is still a few weeks away.

How Big is WrestleMania?

According to the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, WrestleMania is a huge revenue generator for host cities, with more than $1.2 billion in cumulative economic impact for cities that have hosted WrestleMania since 2016. The two-night event will draw over 100,000 fans to U.S. Bank Stadium, and a lot of them will travel to the state for the event.

If true, this would be the first time WrestleMania has been in Minnesota, and for a state that has produced so many talented professional wrestlers, it's about time.
