Iowa News Anchor Quits Job Live On Air
Viewers of Iowa’s KWQC-TV6 were left stunned Friday morning when Emmy-winning news anchor Dustin Nolan announced his resignation live on air during the closing moments of the station’s morning broadcast.
Fighting back tears, Nolan told viewers he had made the difficult decision to leave the news industry altogether. In an emotional farewell, he said he was stepping away because “facts matter,” expressing concern about what he described as a shift away from straightforward reporting.
He also told viewers they deserve better than “trends or sanitized news,” comments that quickly drew attention online and sparked discussion about the state of modern journalism.
Nolan had been a familiar face at NBC affiliate KWQC-TV6, serving audiences across the Quad Cities region.
Nolan will no longer be working alongside his wife and co-anchor Jenna Jackson.
The station, based in Davenport, broadcasts to communities including Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline.
While Nolan did not provide extensive details about his future plans, his remarks suggested growing frustration with broader industry trends.
His unexpected departure resonated with many viewers, some praising his commitment to journalistic integrity and others expressing sadness at seeing a respected local broadcaster leave the profession.
The live resignation highlights ongoing conversations within the media industry about trust, transparency, and the role of fact-based reporting in an increasingly competitive news environment.
