For those of us who start X'ing the days off a calendar until spring starts beginning on the day after Thanksgiving, the arrival of the month of April is usually a good thing, unless, of course, you happen to be a seasonal allergy sufferer. Then you're probably ready to tap the breaks on spring's arrival right about now I'm guessing?

Myself, I love the season of spring, but, I also am one of those people that turns into a walking snot rag about this time every year!

I never suffered from any allergy problems until I got into my late 40s, but once I did, allergy season decided to purchase a vacation home inside me every spring and fall.

If you're starting to feel miserable right about now, chances are you could also be a seasonal allergy sufferer as well.

Thanks to our old friend COVID, once people start feeling sick these days, they immediately assume they've got the VID. That quite often is simply not the case and another very good reason why you should see your doc right away and get tested for what is ailing you at the moment.

According to the American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, the symptoms associated with seasonal allergies are much like those of COVID. Cough, fatigue, headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, etc.

Why do so many people start feeling sick this time of year?

The most common culprit in the spring tends to be pollen. Once the weather starts warming up, trees begin to pollinate, the wind begins to blow, and bad things usually start happening to seasonal allergy suffers.

Experts in the seasonal allergy field say...

We South Dakotans can expect to struggle with the symptoms that come along with allergy season into the month of May. So you might want to stock up on Claritin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, Allegra, or whatever your go-to allergy medication is right now because it sounds like you're probably gonna need it.

With any luck, hopefully, most of us allergy sufferers will receive a brief respite during the summer months, and then we can gear back up for ragweed season in the fall.

Oh, joy!
