  • Public safety
  • Public works
  • Siouxland Libraries

Open to students 18 and older—including undergraduate, technical, and masters-level learners—the program provides hands-on experience in a wide range of departments. No matter what they're drawn to,  Ascend allows students to explore meaningful careers that directly impact the quality of life in Sioux Falls, as well as learn about the entire city.

Public service plays a crucial role in building strong, healthy communities. It’s the work that keeps neighborhoods safe, supports sustainable growth, and ensures everyone has access to essential services and welcoming public spaces.

By joining the Ascend program, students can see firsthand how dedicated public servants help shape the city's future—and how their own contributions can make a lasting difference.
