Frozen Pizza is a multi-million dollar business in the United States.

Pizza popularity boomed post-WWII when soldiers who had returned from Italy were looking for more of the delicious pies they had eaten overseas.
And when freezers became a staple in American homes in the 1950s the first frozen pizzas made their debut.
The first wildly successful frozen pizza started in Minneapolis, Minnesota after Rose and Jim Totino opened their pizzeria in 1951.
Business was so good they decided to try making frozen pizzas so folks could have them at home ready to cook when it was convenient for them.
By the late 1960s, Totino’s had become the best-selling frozen pizza not just in Minnesota but in the whole country.
Totino’s Pizza was purchased by Pillsbury in 1975 then General Mills acquired Totino’s when they bought out Pillsbury in 2001.
According to General Mills Jim Totino died in 1981 and Rose passed away in 1994.
In 2008, Rose was inducted into the Minnesota Inventor’s Hall of Fame for inventing frozen pizza and revolutionizing its crust.
