Sioux Falls Favorite Casa Del Rey Shuts Doors Once More
Sioux Falls has lost another one of its well-known restaurants, at least for now.
News broke on Monday, December 8, that Casa Del Rey has once again closed its doors. According to Dakota News Now, a sign on the front entrance of the Russell Avenue restaurant delivered the update: “Closed until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
For longtime fans, this announcement may feel like déjà vu. Casa Del Rey briefly shut down in the summer of 2024, leaving many loyal customers wondering if their favorite enchiladas and chimichangas were gone for good. However, hope was quickly restored when the Eining Family purchased the restaurant and reopened it in November 2024 after making a handful of updates to both the building and the menu.

The Eining Family is no stranger to the Sioux Falls dining scene. They also own and operate two other Sioux Falls favorites, the Original Pancake House and the ever-popular Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery. And if you happen to be holding onto a Casa Del Rey gift card, here's some good news: word has it those cards will still be honored at Josiah’s downtown.
Casa Del Rey had long been celebrated for serving some of the Sioux Empire’s favorite Mexican dishes, earning a loyal following over the years. Its return in the fall of 2024 was a welcome surprise for many.

Still, if Mexican cuisine is your go-to comfort food, Sioux Falls won’t leave you hungry. The city is packed with great Mexican restaurants, so many, in fact, that locals often joke you can find one on nearly every other block. While Casa Del Rey fans will miss their familiar favorites, there’s no shortage of places ready to help satisfy your next south-of-the-border craving.
