Protect Yourself: Avoid Falling for ‘Sioux Falls Mega Millions’ Scam
There is never a shortage of scams on any given day that make their way through society.
Professional scammers are always scheming up new and creative ways to relieve the public of their hard-earned money.
Dakota News Now reports that a new lottery scam has landed right here in the Sioux Empire.

On Monday (February 17) the Canton, South Dakota Police Department alerted the public on social media of a new scam going around.
According to the post, people in the Canton area have been receiving phone calls from scammers saying they have won the "Sioux Falls Mega Millions" jackpot. Just one problem, there is no "Sioux Falls Mega Millions" lottery.
Once scammers lure you into their con, they ask callers for bank account information to deposit the winnings and complete the contest redemption process.
You can imagine how people can be easily fooled by receiving the news of winning a large lump sum of money. Officials simply want to remind the public that this is not how state and national lottery contests work.
The public should never share sensitive banking information with anyone on the phone asking questions of this nature.
Bottom line...
Should you ever receive a call like this never provide bank account information to the caller. Always remember to call authorities right away to report a possible scam.
