Egg prices have reached a new all-time high...that is, if you can find them on store shelves.

Last year at this time of the year, eggs cost around $2.99 a dozen.

Just ahead of Easter weekend, the average price of eggs have risen to around $6.25 a dozen across the nation.

Of course, Easter is a big time of the year for the traditional coloring of Easter eggs.

But this weekend, shoppers at the Sioux Falls Costco noticed that the normally large egg display in the walk-in cooler was gone.

There were no eggs for sale at the Sioux Falls Costco.

According to Scripps News the egg shortage and soaring prices at Costco and other retailers have been soaring due to a combination of factors, primarily the bird flu, which has decimated egg-laying hen populations.

This, coupled with increased demand and inflation, has pushed prices to record highs.
