Every November, men across the globe have some fun to draw attention to some very serious issues.

It's known as 'Movember' the annual month-long movement to get men to express themselves through facial hair and raise money and awareness for things like:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Mental health and suicide prevention

The movement has very humble beginnings, after being started by a couple of Australian drinking buddies in 2003. It has now grown across the world with more than 5.5 million men in 20 countries letting their beards, mustaches, and sideburns take over in the month of November each year, raising more than $750 million along the way.

The popularity of 'Movember' has caught the interest of the folks at Google who launched a search to see which is the preferred 'Movember' facial hair look in each state.

Believe it or not, in South Dakota we're all about the glitter beard. (Check out the tutorial video to create your own look)

Nationwide, interest in more conventional beard styles like the 'faded' and 'square beard' have doubled, while 'Viking beards' and the 'Van Dyck look' are also getting a lot of interest.

Don't forget the old stand bys. Google's shows that search interest for sideburns and soul patches are up more than 110 percent in 2019.

On the mustache front, searches for 'cowboy', 'cop', and 'pencil' styles are up more than 5,000 percent since last year.
