Tuesday, March 19, is the first day of spring, and here in Sioux Falls, we're all looking forward to the warmer days ahead. Although, we've been pretty lucky lately with the warm sunny days we've been having.

Sioux Falls residents are chomping at the bit to get out into their yards and gardens. My neighbor was out on Saturday doing yard clean up, raking, and picking up debris- -the whole nine yards- -as it were.

But when will it really be safe to get out and do some planting in your garden, or bring your seedlings or houseplants out for some sunshine?

Traditionally, our garden center friends tell us that Mother's Day is the gauge for when it is safe to do all those things. But when is the predicted last frost for Sioux Falls?

Farmer's Almanac is predicting that the last frost in Sioux  Falls will be on Monday, May 6. Keep in mind however that they admit that this is only an estimate. The probability is  30% that it could be sooner or later.

So you may want to stick with Mother's Day, which is Sunday, May 19 as your guide to heading out to your garden.
