Walmart is the latest retailer in the nation to pull the trigger on gun related sales in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.

KSFY TV is reporting that Walmart announced on Wednesday (February 28) the nationwide retailer plans to halt the sale of firearms and ammunition to people younger than 21.

In a statement released to the public on Wednesday, Walmart said, “We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms.”

Dicks's Sporting Goods made a similar announcement the same day, they too have banned the sale of guns and ammunition to people under the age of 21. Dick's is also following suit with Walmart, as they plan to stop selling assault-style weapons like the AR-15, along with high-capacity magazines in all their stores nationwide. The largest sporting goods retailer in the nation stopped selling AR-15 style weapons in all Dick's-branded stores back in 2012. However, they continued to make them available in their 35 Field & Stream locations across the country. As of Wednesday, the company will halt sales in those stores as well.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Walmart stores stopped selling AR-15's and other similar style semi-automatic weapons in 2015 due to what the company described as a shifting demand. Walmart does not sell handguns in its stores, except in Alaska.

After Wednesday's announcement, Walmart now plans to drop all items from its website that resemble assault-style rifles, including nonlethal airsoft guns and toys.
