I have traveled in and around Cancun a few times. I, maybe naively, have never felt threatened while at a resort.

It seems as of late things are getting more violent around some of America's favorite Mexican vacation destinations.

This week the U.S. Department of State issued this travel warning:

The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens about the risk of traveling to certain parts of Mexico due to the activities of criminal organizations in those areas. U.S. citizens have been the victims of violent crimes, including homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery in various Mexican states. This Travel Warning replaces the Travel Warning for Mexico issued December 8, 2016.

Over the past months there are also numerous stories in the news about people at popular all inclusive Mexican resorts being drugged, robbed, served tainted alcohol, and worse.

It's that time of year when folks start planning those winter getaways.  Will this news affect your decisions on considering travel to Mexico?
