As whacky as things are getting in some states across the nation right now, many people from all over the country are beginning to look to South Dakota as a new place to call home.

The nation's 40th state is quickly becoming a top destination for both nomads and those attempting to choose a state to put down permanent roots in that will provide them with a better quality of life.

Well, one thing is for sure, it can't be our winter weather. While it might be fun for some to see snow for a couple of weeks, after about the 12th week of snow, ice, and non-stop cold temps, some of these transplants from warmer weather states have to seriously be contemplating going back to where they came from. I'm guessing at that point, they'll gladly pay higher taxes and put up with draconian-style laws just to escape -30 below zero wind chills in January and February!

However, if you possess the power to go toe to toe with Old Man Winter, South Dakota can be a great state to call home.

And look at it this way, worst case scenario if things don't work out and you end up hating our state, at least you'll be able to say you visited the world's only Corn Palace. They have some great souvenirs.
