With the temps getting warmer, a cold treat sure would hit the spot. It was a tough job, but someone had to do the research. My friend Dusti and I sampled several places in Sioux Falls that serve ice cream. We didn't discriminate either. If the store served anything that resembled ice cream (i.e. gelato, custard, frozen yogurt) we tried them. We've narrowed down our list to come up with the Top 7 Best Places in Sioux Falls To Get Ice Cream (or a creamy treat in general).

If we missed your favorite, please feel free to comment on our Facebook page or in the comments below. We will gladly go sample them.

    Cherry Berry

The name of the business even sounds delicious. At Cherry Berry you can create your own unique combinations of flavors. There are several varieties of frozen yogurt, sorbet and gelato to choose, then add your favorite toppings. I love Cake Batter with chocolate sandwich cookie pieces.  Cherry Berry has two locations in Sioux Falls, 5107 S Louise Avenue and on the east side at 1013 S Highline place, next to target.

    Family Treats

I first tried Family Treats Homemade Ice Cream and Treats at the Folk Off and Rib Challenge at Strawbale Winery. It was the perfect treat after a BBQ pork sandwich. I had the waffle cone with cookies and cream ice cream. You gotta love homemade ice cream. Look for them at one of the many summer events in the Sioux Empire.

    SDSU Ice Cream

They call it cow to cone. SDSU's ice cream is manufactured by SDSU students and sold at the college's Dairy Bar. You can also find the SDSU Ice Cream Truck at various events like the Sioux Empire Fair and JazzFest and also several stores like Hy-Vee and Lewis. Food Network magazine named SDSU ice cream the best in the state. The magazine's choice is also my favorite, cookies and cream.

    Boki Gelato

Maybe you've tried Boki Gelato at Food Truck Friday, or the Festival of Cultures, or Hot Summer Nites in downtown Sioux Falls.  Let's face it, they're everywhere, including the Empire Mall. If you've passed them by in the Mall or any local event, you're missing out. They specialize in Italian Artisan ice cream in lots of different super creamy flavors.

    Cold Stone Creamery

Cold Stone ice cream tastes so good because it's made fresh in store every day. Your favorite additions are mixed in on a frozen granite stone. Their ice cream cakes are to die for! Cold Stone is located across from the Century 14 Theaters in Sioux Falls.

    B & G Milky Way

I'm happy when they open for the season and sad when they close. The hot fudge and marshmallow malt is my favorite. Several people I know live for the homemade strawberry ice cream. I love going to the store on West 12th Street.  It's the original location and I'm a sucker for nostalgia.

Stensland Family Farms Ice Cream Shop

Just to make sure we were making the right choice for #1, we sampled their ice cream twice in three days. Don't judge us, we needed to make sure! Well, we can confirm, this is pretty close to perfect ice cream. The ice cream is made fresh every day, from super fresh ingredients from their farm in Larchwood, Iowa. Get your ice cream in a sweet and crispy waffle cone or in a dish. Our favorite flavor is the Heavenly Holstein. It's cookies and cream - and if you haven't been able to tell yet, that is my favorite ice cream flavor. In addition to being an ice cream shop, you'll find fresh milk, butter, cheese, eggs and even hamburger. Stensland Ice Cream Shop is located on 41st Street in the strip mall next to Olive Garden.
