Seems like just about everybody these days is caught up in the fad of taking selfies. A selfie of course is a picture of yourself, taken by yourself.

If you need proof of society's fascination with selfies, look no further than Facebook. All you need to do is just log onto  Facebook at any random time throughout the day and you'll see a ton of people posting selfies.

The rise in the number of selfies also has caused people to become more aware of how horrifying they actually look.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, there has been a massive jump in facial plastic surgery in the past year.

In particular, the number of nose jobs. It seems that after people take a gander at their selfie and get a glimpse of their sniffer up close, many are mortified at the way it really looks.  The number of nose jobs being done has risen by 10% and the AAFPRS attributes that to the number of selfies being taken.

People are fast becoming obsessed with their little imperfections and want to do something about it. Especially women, as they have accounted for 81% of the facial plastic surgeries in the past year.

"Time" magazine recently did a study to figure out the cities with the highest percentage of people taking selfies. The top five are:

  • New York...specifically Manhattan.
  • Miami.
  • Anaheim, California...you can thank Disneyland for that.
  • San Francisco.
  • And Boston rounds out the top 5.

I thought I'd take this time to get into the selfie spirit myself. So I decided to post a selfie of my own.

My selfie. Yikes!
