Exciting Event At Anne Sullivan Elementary School Introduces All Kids Bike Program
When you're a little kid, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage. But not every child gets the opportunity to do it.
That is where a wonderful national non-profit program comes in. The All Kids Bike program is on a mission to teach every child in America to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
Thanks to a generous gift from the HDR Foundation the kindergartners at Anne Sullivan Elementary will have this opportunity and there will be a special event to celebrate it.
Thursday, February 15, from 11:30 to 12:30 at Anne Sullivan Elementary, Mayor Paul Ten Haken, representatives from HDR, Principal Nikkie Duin, and PE Teacher Jeananne Soukup will gather to unveil the bikes. There will be a brief presentation and then the kindergartners get to enjoy a first ride, or "stride" in this case.
HDR granted $360,000 to the Anne Sullivan Elementary School All Kids Bike program for the 2023-24 school year. The program includes a curriculum, training for teachers, Strider Balance Bikes, kits to turn the Striders into pedal bikes, helmets, a bike for the teacher to demonstrate, and storage racks.
The goal is to get as many kids as possible riding bikes early. The All Kids Bike program in kindergarten PE uses a proven curriculum to give every child the chance to enjoy riding on two wheels.
