Augustana University will be holding South Dakota's first Lego league state tournament next month.  The event is a national competition where middle school students (ages 9-14) design, build, and program an autonomous robot to earn points for accomplishing prescribed missions on a 4x8 playing field. They also give presentations on research projects where they have tackled a problem and propose a novel solution.

36 teams from Rapid City, Pierre, Aberdeen, Spearfish, Luverne, Sioux Falls, Inwood, Worthington and Brandon will be competing in the tournament on January 28, 2017. The winning individual or teams will move onto the national competition. The judged events will take place during the morning.

There will be robot runs throughout the day in the Elmen Center,  “Encore Presentations” by the teams which received Champion or Project awards at their qualifier. In the Humanities Building at Augustana, teams will be doing their judged events of Project, Robot Design and Core Values.

The event is free and open to the public. For more info go to embe.org.
