The first Winter Storm Warning of the season could bring more than 12 inches of snow to portions of South Dakota.
The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING from 12:00 PM today until 12:00 PM Wednesday (October 30).
Location:
Black Hills area of South Dakota into Wyoming
Expected Snowfall:
Higher elevations could see 8-15 inches of snow with potentially higher amounts near Lead / Deadwood.
Warning:
This storm will create dangerous driving conditions, particularly during the Tuesday evening commute.
Here is the NWS Forecast for the Storm area...
Tuesday: Snow likely, possibly mixed with rain before noon, then snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 29 by 5pm. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.
Tuesday Night: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Steady temperature around 27. Wind chill values as low as 18. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.
Wednesday: Snow. High near 30. Wind chill values as low as 17. North wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 19. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
