Freezin’ For A Reason – Special Olympics Polar Plunge Coming Soon
You've got to be brave to jump into the chilly water in April in South Dakota. You also have to want to hang out with a lot of like-minded South Dakotans who love to have fun and support the Special Olympics.
On Saturday, April 12, the Sioux Falls Special Olympics Polar Plunge is happening at Combined Pool & Spa. Law enforcement and community members team up to raise awareness and funds to support over 2,750 Special Olympics athletes. This year’s Plunge will provide funds for year-round sports training and competition with no cost to the athletes.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The Plunge into the brand-new Mobile Plunge Unit begins at 1:00 p.m. The “Plungester” is a custom-built pool that is on a trailer. The pool is approximately 4 feet deep.
There will also be a smaller cold plunge available outside Combined Pool & Spa for those who do not want to take the leap into the mobile Plunge Unit.
Each person is required to raise a minimum of $100 or go above and beyond in their fundraising to get an incentive at varying levels. Plungers can participate individually or create a team with friends, co-workers, or classmates.
This year, the statewide Polar Plunge theme is Hawaiian! So come up with some Hawaiian gear - like your finest tropical shirt or maybe even a grass skirt and be ready to plunge!
High school and college students who plunge could win a $500 scholarship.
There will be an After-Plunge Party at Vinyl Taco from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the specialty Plunge Menu will go back to Special Olympics South Dakota. So you can also participate by stopping by this special event.
Also, maybe you don't want to plunge, but you do want to volunteer to help with the event, volunteers are always welcome. And of course, you can donate to the cause anytime.
