
Show Me the Money! South Dakota to Increase Minimum Wage January 1st
Who wants a raise?
Right after the start of the New Year, several South Dakota workers will be getting one.
The state of South Dakota is set to bump up the minimum wage at the beginning of 2025.

While it's far from a robust increase, it is nonetheless a wage hike.
Dakota News Now is reporting, that starting (January 1) 2025, the minimum wage in the state will increase by 30 cents for non-tipped employees. Once, the increase kicks in, the new statewide minimum wage will be $11.50 an hour.
That rate is for every employee not eligible to receive tips. Employees working a job eligible for tips will receive a minimum wage of $5.75 an hour.
The minimum wage is adjusted each year based on increases to the cost of living.
At this time, the District of Columbia has the highest minimum wage in the nation at $17.00 per hour. The state of Washington is a close second at $16.25.
The federal minimum wage right now stands at $7.25 per hour.
The minimum wage varies from state to state. However, some states have an annual plan in place that will eventually increase the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour.
Beginning in January, the states of Maryland, New Jersey, and upstate New York, will join California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Washington, and the rest of New York as the only states in the country with a minimum wage currently at $15.00 an hour.
