Where Is A ‘Snowfighter Roadeo’ Going On In South Dakota?
First of all you need to know what a "Snowfighter Roadeo" is. And according to Dakota News Now, it is a competition that puts South Dakota snowplow drivers through their paces in an effort to make them and our roads safer during the upcoming winter months.
According to the SD Department of Transportation Director of Operations Craig Smith, this event has been going on for over 25 years in cities all over the state including Sioux Falls.
It is an educational competition for the drivers taking part, and according to one driver, Highway Maintenance Supervisor Dave Jennings, just makes them better at what they do.
The target time for drivers to complete the course is around 8 minutes, but it doesn't always go that smoothly. And the goal really isn't the time the course is finished in but the safety with which it is done.
The "roadeo" competition isn't ending in Sioux Falls though, next week the top snowplow drivers will meet and compete in Pierre, not just for bragging rights, but also an actual belt buckle for the top 3 finishers.
It looks like winter is up against some pretty tough snowfighters in our state!
