Hey, if you’re a die-hard fan of the Falls Park Farmer’s Market, don’t pack away your reusable tote bags just yet. Sure, the traditional season may be officially wrapped, but guess what? The market isn’t actually done. Not even close.

For the first time, all your farmers-market favorites will still be popping up throughout the winter months, because the Sioux Empire refuses to let a little thing like frostbite get between us and fresh produce.

According to Dakota News Now, the first-ever Winter Farmer’s Market made its grand debut last weekend, proving that even though Jack Frost will soon be nipping at our noses, toes, and anything else left uncovered that grows, he can’t shut down the Sioux Falls produce pipeline.

That beloved summertime tradition is simply moving indoors, to the Mosaic Events Building on North Main Avenue, where the vibe is cozy, the veggies are fresh, and you don’t have to worry about your tomatoes freezing into a tiny red hockey puck.

During opening weekend, 18 of the market’s usual summer vendors set up shop, offering everything from produce to baked goods to other locally made treats that pair perfectly with a winter spent pretending we’re not counting the days until spring.

The goal of this new winter setup is simple: keep the spirit of the summer market alive and well through the long, cold, “why-do-I-live-here-again?” South Dakota winter months. Vendors are thrilled to stick with their customers all year, and organizers hope the winter market will boost excitement for the outdoor version when it returns late next spring.

And if you missed last weekend’s launch, don’t worry, your chance to load up on winter goodies isn’t gone. The Winter Farmer’s Market runs nearly every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 PM inside the Mosaic Building downtown.

So grab your coat, bring your coffee, and enjoy one of the only places in Sioux Falls where you can buy kale and kolaches under the same roof while the South Dakota snow and wind blow.
