Get Ready For Go Green Month In Sioux Falls This April
Sioux Falls is all about preserving the planet in April, as the city plans to go green big time this spring!
Each spring, the city highlights environmental efforts with a variety of activities, but this year Sioux Falls is expanding one of its biggest sustainability initiatives. According to a report from Pigeon 605, the city plans to grow its Sustainability Grant Program in 2026, offering more opportunities for local organizations to help protect and improve the community’s environment.
The program first launched in 2016 and has helped fund several local environmental projects over the years. In previous years, the city typically awarded one $10,000 grant. This year, however, officials are taking a slightly different approach by splitting the funding into four separate $5,000 grants, allowing more groups to get involved and focus on specific environmental needs around Sioux Falls.

The grants will focus on four key areas:
- Single-stream recycling
- Waste reduction
- Clean water
- Sustainable living
Local nonprofits, organizations, and community groups interested in applying for the grant have until Thursday, April 16, to submit their proposals. Once applications close, a review team will evaluate the submissions before announcing the grant recipients later this spring.
The Sustainability Grant Program has already helped spark several impactful local initiatives. Groups like Friends of the Big Sioux River, Bread Break, and SoDak Compost all grew out of projects supported by the city’s sustainability funding.
April will also feature several Go Green Month events across Sioux Falls, giving residents plenty of opportunities to get involved. Activities will take place throughout the city at parks, libraries, and facilities like the Westside Recreation Center.
