The city of Sioux Falls made quite the splash last week after it announced it's preparing to dive into a series of plans to provide extreme makeovers to aquatic facilities at three existing city parks, along with the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art aquatic facility.

Dakota News Now reports that the city intends to award a contract to Stockwell Engineers out of Sioux Falls to help redesign the aquatic facilities at Kuehn Park, McKennan Park, and the proposed new aquatic facility on the city's south side.

An Illinois-based company, called Williams Architects will receive a separate contract. They will be tasked with redesigning the facility at Frank Olson Park.

According to Dakota News Now, members from a selection committee comprised of several city departments, from the Park Board, and the City Council selected the two firms based on their expertise and ability in designing municipal recreation and aquatic facilities.

The Director of Parks and Recreation, Don Kearney, told Dakota News Now, "We are thrilled about taking the next step in our efforts to replace our aging aquatic facilities with new state-of-the-art facilities for our community. These are important long-term investments in our quality of life and are a key element in making Sioux Falls an attractive place to live, work, and play."

Kearney says the improvements made to the existing facilities will last for another 50 years.

The city of Sioux Falls encourages its residents to have a say in the design of these various aquatic facilities. Those interested in doing so will be able to attend a series of community engagement sessions with the designers over the coming months.

To find out when the sessions will take place, simply dive into the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation website and social media pages for all the details.
