Busted! Sioux Falls Police Cracking Down on Speeding
The Sioux Falls PD is taking steps to crack down on leadfoot drivers throughout the city.
That initiative was on full display on Wednesday, (July 10) when police set up a speed enforcement project in the downtown region of the city.
Dakota News Now reports the project was underway on Wednesday on the 11th Street viaduct.

The initiative is not just about snagging speeders, law enforcement is attempting to make a concerted effort to get motorists throughout the city to slow down in sections of the city with high volumes of pedestrians.
Sergeant Travis Olsen with SFPD told Dakota News Now, “Speeding does get excessive and we’re trying to slow people down and try to save on injuries or worse in the area.”
According to Dakota News Now, police spent just one hour on Wednesday in the 11th Street viaduct area, and during that time 17 different traffic stops were made.
Sioux Falls drivers need to be on the lookout for additional speed enforcement projects over the coming weeks throughout the city as police continue their pursuit of cracking down on speeding in the Sioux Empire.
So far during 2024, Sioux Falls police have issued more than double the amount of speeding tickets they did during the previous year. They've been averaging around 700 citations each month.
Where are the speeding hotspots in the city?
Most speeders have been getting pulled over on Cliff Avenue, 69th Street, and South Minnesota Avenue.
