This Sucks! Wet Weather Helping to Fuel Sioux Falls Mosquito Season
I know we need moisture in the worst way here in the Sioux Empire, but if it keeps raining like it has over the past couple of days, Sioux Falls and the surrounding area will quickly become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
That's why the city is currently ramping up its efforts to stay on top of mosquito season, before those little blood suckers become a big problem.
Dakota News Now is reporting that the city of Sioux Falls is monitoring mosquito traps at this time to get a better handle on what we can expect in terms of a mosquito population during the summer of 25.

Once Mother Nature turns off her spicket, the city will dispatch crews to start treating standing water across the area to help stop mosquitoes before they hatch.
I know farmers are lovin' all this moisture right now, and so are mosquitoes.
This wet spring weather is a blessing for the farming community, and a potential nightmare for mosquito haters, as it helps fuel the start of mosquito season.
Public Health Program Manager Jaimie Roggenbauer, told Dakota News Now, “We go find standing water in ditches or in inlets around the road, and we test them, we call it dipping for larvae, and if we find larvae there, we actually treat it on the spot. And that prevents mosquitoes from ever even going into that adult stage.”
