One of the most anticipated events of the winter months here in Sioux Falls is scheduled to hit the slopes of Great Bear Ski Valley later this month.

It's the Media One FunSki. A 2-day outdoor event all about raising money to benefit Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety (formerly Children’s Inn).

FunSki 2023 is set for Friday and Saturday (January 20 and 21st.)

Again this year, hundreds of people will converge on Great Bear for an eclectic variety of winter events over the two-day period that includes things like, skiing, fat tire biking, snowboarding, team snow tubing,  a snow sculpture contest, the Liquid Lap, Zipfy sled racing and of course, cross country skiing.

Over its 34-year history, FunSki has become the Sioux Empire's premier outdoor winter event and the largest revenue-generating weekend of the year at Great Bear Ski Valley.

To date, Funski has raised more than one million dollars for Children’s Home Shelter for
Family Safety, the local domestic abuse shelter for women and children here in the Sioux Falls area.

Take a look at this year's schedule of events:

FRIDAY JANUARY 20:

Snow Sculpture Contest: 9 AM - 8 PM
Family Safety Tubing Night: 4 PM - 9:30 PM
Rail Jam for Skiers & Snowboarders – 7 PM
The evening will conclude with Live Music In the Chalet.

SATURDAY JANUARY 21:

Cross Country Ski Race 5K - 8 AM
Fat Bike Race - 10 AM
Liquid Lap - 11 AM
Race for Safety Giant Slalom (Ski) - 1 PM
Snowboard Giant Slalom – 3 PM
Zipfy Sled Races – 4 PM

Award ceremonies for the various events will typically take place about 15 minutes after each event ends, in the bar area of the chalet.

You should also know that most skiing and boarding events have Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories so all skill levels are welcome to attend.

FunSki is made possible each year by incredible local businesses and organizations all over the Sioux Empire, including Dakota News Now and all of us here at Results-Townsquare Media.

Online registration is now underway. The online registration period ends at 8 AM on Friday (January 20). However, you can still register in person both days up to one hour before each event is slated to begin, with the exception of the snow sculpture contest. Participants for that event must be pre-registered in advance.

FunSki 2023 is the place you want to be this winter. See previous year's highlight reels and get complete details on this year's event here.
