Sioux Falls LHS Band to March in 2024 Macy’s Day Parade
The students at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls received an unexpected surprise earlier this year when officials with the Macy's Day Parade called to invite them to once again march during the annual Thanksgiving Day parade next November (2024).
Dakota News Now reports that the Lincoln Patriot Marching Band was one of ten high school bands from around the country to receive this prestigious honor.
Lincoln High School staff, along with LHS Band director Daniel Carlson worked with Macy's Day Parade staff to help coordinate the big surprise for the school's band students.
This will be the 4th time the LHS Band has been chosen to march in the Macy's Day Parade. The last time was in 2008. Prior to that, the LHS Band marched in 2000 and in 1994 in the annual parade held on Thanksgiving Day in New York City.
Daniel Carlson, director of the Lincoln Patriot Marching Band told Dakota News Now, “We are beyond excited that the Lincoln Patriot Marching Band was selected to march in the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for us all and we cannot wait to cherish every magical moment of this amazing event. We are so excited to represent the great state of South Dakota and the upper Great Plains on Thanksgiving Day 2024!”
The announcement is quite the honor for Lincoln High Schools as bands are chosen to participate in the parade due to their stage presence and their musical and marching abilities, according to Dakota News Now.
The next few months are definitely going to be busy for LHS Band students, as they begin to rehearse, fundraise, and make all the other necessary preparations for their latest Macy's Day Parade appearance in November of 2024.
