The spring cleaning season is spreading to the great outdoors and as it does, Sioux Falls residents will be able to easily get rid of all that yard debris.

The City of Sioux Falls has opened two branch and leaf drop-off sites that are free for residents to use through Sunday, May 26.

The two sites are located at North Lyon Boulevard, near the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds, and Chambers Street, near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Both sites are open from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday, and 12 noon to 5 PM on Sunday.

The sites are intended for residential use only, and cars, pickups, full-size SUVs, vans, and two-wheel trailers are accepted. Lawn service companies, commercial businesses, and double-axel trailers will not be accepted and must go directly to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill.

Branches and leaves must be placed in separate piles, and leaves must be removed from plastic bags. All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle. Plastic bags, stumps, rubble, and household garbage are not accepted.

Discarded branches are ground and repurposed, while leaves are composted. Compost is available for free to residents year-round at the landfill. Free compost is also available at the Chambers Street drop-off site. Residents must collect and carry their own compost.
