Sioux Falls BMX Enthusiasts Push For An Official Race Track
I just read the other day that the Sioux Falls metro has now surpassed the 300,000 population mark! Yikes! I can remember when the city was around 120,000+ people. I know, I'm really dating myself.
As the population of Sioux Falls continues to grow, the city is looking to add all sorts of fun and different aspects to South Dakota's largest community. One of the things being bantered around at the moment is the possibility of building a BMX-sanctioned track.
Interest in the sport of BMX is growing within the Sioux Empire.
If you've spent time in Elmwood Park recently, you might have noticed a dirt track on the park's north side facing Russell Street. That track is currently being used by BMX bike lovers in the community.

Dakota News Now reports that there is a community of BMX racers who have a real passion for the sport here in Sioux Falls. One of those BMX enthusiasts is Chris Philips. Chris, together with a group of his friends, is attempting to get a USA BMX-sanctioned track built here in Sioux Falls.
As it stands right now, any BMX racer here in Sioux Falls hoping to either watch or compete in the sport will need to travel to either Omaha or Aberdeen to find a USA BMX-sanctioned track.
Philips has designs on changing that. According to Dakota News Now, he feels that as fast as Sioux Falls is growing, and it being such a travel hub for the region, it's ready to support a USA BMX-sanctioned track.
Philips received permission from the city of Sioux Falls some time back to create and maintain the pump track currently being used in Elmwood Park.
As Dakota News Now reports, since that time, many other BMX enthusiasts in the area have banned together to show their passion and support for the sport. That group of folks have now started a petition to show interest in bringing a sanctioned USA BMX-sanctioned track to the city, which could host races that Sioux Falls could capitalize on.
They feel a track of this nature could be a real boost to the Sioux Falls economy.
Dakota News Now reports that the group is hopeing the interest in constructing an official BMX track in Sioux Falls continues to grow. That will allow them to begin a campaign to find avenues to fund the project. It's still a long way off, but, Philips and his fellow BMX lovers remain determined.
They plan to keep peddling forward!
