Sioux Area Metro Now Offering Upgraded Bus Routes in Sioux Falls
If you're a frequent user of the Sioux Area Metro (SAM) transit system in Sioux Falls your route options within the city just got a little more plentiful on Monday.
Dakota News Now reports that SAM expanded its public transit route coverage within the Sioux Falls area on Monday, (February 3). It's all part of Sioux Area Metro's Reimagined Plan.
A couple of the more notable changes that were rolled out on Monday include a route to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport and some earlier morning bus routes.

Sioux Falls Director of Planning and Development Services Jeff Eckhoff told Dakota News Now, “A lot of people jump to travelers, but we’re also looking at employees. That’s a good way for them to get to work as well. We’ve had that in the works for a while. There was road construction that held us up, but there was a route that went by there anyway, and so we just added it as a stop.”
When it comes to the earlier morning routes, they will now begin starting at 6:00 AM across the city. The process will still be somewhat of a work in progress initially, as the timing of stops will be adjusted to improve fixed route on-time performance according to Eckhoff.
He told Dakota News Now, “You may remember they added on-demand, and so they’re getting those requests. Between the requests for that, what they’re seeing in ridership, the demand, it really prompted SAM to say, ‘We need to take some of these routes earlier."
Those wishing to take SAM for a test drive are encouraged to hop on the Sioux Area Metro transit system app to get all the particulars.
When using the app, Eckhoff says, simply type in where you want to go, it will give you the best rides, show you how to get there, and help you understand how the system works.
