If you're like a lot of people, you are completely shopped out after the holidays. Believe me, I get that. But others totally look forward to white sales and clearance sales to re-stock linen closets and replace appliances.

If you do indeed, need or want to replace your sheets with fresh, new ones, they are a great buy during traditional January "white sales". But be aware that there is more to a quality sheet set than thread count.

Another time of year, other than Black Friday, when you can count on getting a great price for televisions is the time leading up to the Super Bowl. Take into consideration where you're putting it, as far as sizes considered, know what you want and then do your homework, and as the song says "shop around"! Consumer Reports has a lot of great tips on buying that TV.

The third category of products which can be found deeply discounted during January is fitness merchandise. Treadmills, ellipticals, even bathroom scales and other fitness items are on sale this month, so you have a real possibility of getting more for your money.

Look for fitness items that are comfortable for you to use and make sure you try before you buy. Nobody wants to help you load that treadmill into your truck for a trip back to the store!

Winter sports gear and clothing can also be found at really reasonable prices this time of year. But as I said, if you're shopped out, nothing, not even super low prices, makes it worth wading through stores to find those "great buys".
