If helping our active military, military veterans and their families was as easy as doing your shopping and rounding up your total to the next dollar, would you? I know I would and did, yesterday at Hy-Vee.

All this month, through November 30, when you shop at Hy-Vee, upon checkout you'll be asked if you'd like to "round up" to help our military members and veterans. The Hy-Vee Homefront initiative gives us all the opportunity to support people who served and continue to serve this country so honorably.

Proceeds from this month-long effort go to four organizations which provide assistance to current and former military members.

  • Operation First Response - Helps to alleviate the personal and financial needs of wounded military members and their families. They provide everything from groceries to clothing, mortgage and rent payments, vehicle and utility payments and more. Since 2004 they've raised $9 million dollars and served over 17,000 wounded service members.
  • Puppy Jake Foundation - Based in Des Moines, Iowa, its mission is to help military vets by providing them with "well bred, socialized and professionally trained service dogs."
  • Hope for The Warriors - Provides support programs for service members, veterans and military families; focusing on transition, health and wellness, connections to resources within their communities and more.
  • The American Red Cross - Helps military members and their families with shelter, food and emotional support, as they do victims of disasters.

Hy-Vee is matching all funds raised by this promotion, up to $100,000. So the next time you're shopping at Hy-Vee, remember to "Round Up" for our military service members and veterans.
