The series of thunderstorms that moved through the Sioux Empire on Wednesday night (June 11) brought some much-needed precipitation, high winds, a bit of hail, and a spectacular light show.

Parts of Sioux Falls were without power due to a transformer that was struck by lightning early in the evening. Some residents were left without power for over six hours courtesy of Mother Nature's little light show.

Dakota News Now is reporting that a few communities in Northwest Iowa were hit the hardest with Mother Nature's severe weather whoppin' stick.

Towns like Rock Rapids and Sibley, Iowa, which are between 30 and 60 miles east of Sioux Falls, took the brunt of Mother Nature's wrath. Residents in those areas saw damage to homes, businesses, and trees due to severe storms that rolled through that portion of the state.

According to Dakota News Now, many roofs were blown off homes in Lyon County’s Rock Rapids and Sibley in Osceola County. Several buildings were also damaged in Rock Rapids, along with numerous trees down in Emmetsburg.

Cleanup will be at the top of everyone's list today in those Iowa communities.

What can we expect to see weather-wise for the rest of the week?

Well, it looks like just a slight chance of thunderstorms again tonight, with a better chance on Saturday and Sunday night.

Hopefully, nothing too severe, where you live.
